Anaphylaxis

Writer's picture: Zoe WeaverZoe Weaver

Anaphylaxis is where the body's immune system begins to overreact.

It releases histamine from cells in the blood and tissues which cause swelling.

It will become difficult to swallow and breathe as the lips, mouth and throat begin to swell. This makes the situation life threatening very quickly.

Signs of anaphylaxis are a swollen tongue, wheezing, feeling faint, hives or a rash.
